Monnaie de Paris

France’s public mint combines circulating-coin production with collector coins, medals and decorative work. Its collector shop and Marianne gold-investment services have separate contracts.

Relationship & editorial notes

This is a dated editorial reference. Product availability, destination eligibility and purchase terms should be checked for the exact order.

Know the business

The useful overview.

Monnaie de Paris is a French public industrial and commercial establishment, or EPIC, under the economy ministry. It makes French circulating euros and coinage for other countries. The modern legal entity dates to January 1, 2007; its institutional history reaches back to 864.[1][2]

The two principal sites have different roles: Pessac produces circulating coins, while the Paris site combines collector-coin and decoration manufacture with a museum. Commercial work includes collector coins, medals and art objects.[2][3]

Pop-culture issues are one part of the collector catalog. An official Harry Potter page documents 2021 and 2022 collections, including shaped and colored pieces. It is a historical reference, not proof of present inventory or a continuing franchise license.[4]

Marianne Or is a separate gold-investment offer. Its e-Marianne version is defined by its contract as a personal contractual right against the Mint, without ownership of precious metal before minting and delivery are requested. It should not be described as allocated gold already owned by the customer.[8][9]

What to explore.

Themes are researched issue examples rather than a current licensing register. Collector coins, medals, physical Marianne Or and e-Marianne contractual rights require separate identification and terms.[4][8][9]

Check the details

Before you buy.

Read the current item and checkout terms. These notes summarize dated company policies, not a promise about your order. Applicable consumer rights still matter.

Check the collector-shop destination and total

The consumer terms allow EU and non-EU delivery except Lebanon, Russia and the United Kingdom. The US is not excluded in that clause, but an order-specific US checkout was not tested. The published base international charge is EUR 30; confirm current checkout fees and any import costs.[5]

Collector withdrawal differs from a defect claim

Eligible distance purchases allow 14 days from receipt to give withdrawal notice, then 14 days to return. The customer pays ordinary return postage; engraved products are excluded. Separate legal remedies apply to defective or incorrect goods.[5][6]

Keep the refund timetable in writing

Sections 9.1 and 9.2 use different refund timings: 15 working days after receipt versus 14 days after withdrawal notice, with permitted withholding pending return or proof. Ask which applies and retain the order terms.[5]

Gold-investment withdrawal is excluded

The Marianne Or and e-Marianne Or contracts both exclude withdrawal. Their delivery, identity checks and charges are separate from the collector shop. Marianne Or delivery excludes countries on the referenced FATF lists rather than copying the collector shop’s three-country exclusion.[8][9]

Understand e-Marianne fees and delivery

The e-Marianne contract provides a buyback route before conversion. Requesting minting and delivery is irreversible and removes that route for the converted rights. Management, transformation and delivery fees can apply; the live fee schedule must be reviewed separately.[9]

Face value does not guarantee recovery of the purchase premium

The collector FAQ discusses French face-value encashment and market resale, and says a bank is not compelled to provide a face-value exchange. Those routes do not guarantee the price originally paid for a collector piece.[7]
