Patrick Mavros

Patrick Mavros is a family design house associated with animal sculpture, jewelry and table objects in silver, with an especially strong connection to African wildlife.

Relationship & editorial notes

Know the business

The useful overview.

The house’s family account names Patrick and Catja Mavros and their four sons: Alexander, Forbes, Patrick Jnr and Benjamin. It describes jewelry, sculptural objects and commissions. The brand name should not be read as proof that Patrick personally designed or made every piece.[1]

UK sales terms identify African Luxury Ltd, company 08619583. Companies House lists it as active, incorporated in 2013. This verifies a UK selling entity, not the entire international house’s corporate structure or a US seller.[4][5]

The house says its pieces are handmade in studios in Zimbabwe and Mauritius.[7]

A cataloged elephant miniature combines a sterling-silver sculpture with a Zimbabwean dark-wood base. The distinction matters: overall dimensions and weight do not measure silver content alone.[8]

Sotheby’s documented a pair of elephant-and-tree candelabra attributed to Patrick Mavros, Zimbabwe, 1999. This is evidence of a particular historical work, not proof of current stock or a rising resale market.[9]

Names & chapters

How the story developed.

  1. 1977 / 1978

    The origin date differs

The US story dates Patrick’s first earrings for Catja to 1977; the South African story says 1978. Neither date is presented here as a verified incorporation date.[2][3]

  2. 1980 / 1987

    First elephant dates differ too

The US story places the first silver elephant in 1980; the South African timeline says 1987. The discrepancy remains unresolved.[2][3]

  3. 1983

    Early Zimbabwe studio

Both house timelines date the first studio to 1983.[2][3]

Its registered controller is Alexandros Karolos Mavros, with 75% or more of shares and voting rights. The register does not establish ownership of all Mavros businesses worldwide.[6]

Check the details

Before you buy.

Read the current item and checkout terms. These notes summarize dated company policies, not a promise about your order. Applicable consumer rights still matter.

Dollar amounts in these notes are US dollars.

US shipping and made-to-order timing

The US page lists continental-US standard shipping at $25, estimated 2–3 working days, and express at $50, estimated 1–2. Island territories need a quote. Out-of-stock pieces may take 4–6 weeks to dispatch. These estimates depend on availability.[7]

Get the applicable return terms in writing

The US delivery page offers 30-day returns, unused and in original packaging, with prior notice and return postage at the buyer’s cost. Refunds exclude shipping, duties and international taxes, subject to stated fault/cancellation exceptions. Its return address is London.[7]

Regional wording is inconsistent

UK terms separately contain seven-day refund/cancellation wording and 30-day credit/exchange wording, with personalized exclusions. Do not assume those terms and the US page describe the same rights. Ask which policy governs your order.[4]

Separate the sculpture from its base

Ask for net silver weight if metal content matters. For older pieces, record marks, base material, damage and repairs rather than using the model name as an authentication test.[8]
