SilverTowne

A Winchester retail showroom for rare and modern coins, bullion and collecting supplies, with company origins in 1949.

Coins, bullion and the tools of collecting

SilverTowne’s Winchester showroom describes rare, modern and commemorative coins alongside bullion. It also lists numismatic supplies and reference books, allowing a collecting visit to include both objects and the materials used to study or store them.

Choose a purpose for the visit before comparing displays. A type-set purchase, a gift and a bullion purchase call for different questions. Bring a list of what you already own so an attractive piece does not become an accidental duplicate.

A coin business founded in 1949

SilverTowne dates its founding by Leon Hendrickson to 1949 and describes its early coin operation as beginning with a cigar box beneath a lunch counter. That is the company’s origin story, not a verified opening date for the current Union City Pike showroom.

Compare the format before the price

When considering silver, identify whether the item is a government-issued coin, a privately made round or a bar. Ask for the weight, fineness and complete price of the exact piece. For a collectible coin, also record the date, mintmark, grade and any certification information.

Packaging deserves its own question. Ask whether an original box or certificate belongs with the issue and whether it is included. If you need storage supplies, bring measurements or holder details rather than an unprotected coin. Choose materials that let you retain labels and receipts without touching the coin’s surfaces.

Plan for the retail showroom

The operator gives the showroom address as 120 East Union City Pike, Winchester, IN 47394. Its published customer-service contact is 877-477-2646. Confirm current visit arrangements and whether your requested material can be inspected there before making a special trip.

Keep a brief comparison sheet during the visit. Writing down the item description and what is included makes it easier to review your choices after leaving the counter.

Take a short list

Three questions for the counter

  1. Is this exact coin or bullion format available to inspect in the showroom?
  2. Which original packaging or certificates are included with the item?
  3. What is the complete price, and what return terms apply to this category?
