Know the business
The useful overview.
Tiffany & Co. is part of LVMH. Its current US online and telephone sales terms name Tiffany and Company U.S. Sales LLC as the contracting seller. The group, historic house and regional sales company should not be treated as interchangeable identities.[1][2]
The Met traces Tiffany’s silver relationship with John C. Moore and Son to an exclusive retail arrangement in 1851. Edward C. Moore later led design and manufacture; his manufactory transferred to Tiffany in 1868. Tiffany’s silver was collaborative work, not all personally made by its founder.[4]
Cleveland’s record for a tureen stand designed in 1986 distinguishes Elsa Peretti as designer, Pampaloni Company of Florence as maker and Tiffany & Co. as retailer. Those three credits are worth preserving when cataloging comparable objects.[5]
The current US catalog includes an Elsa Peretti Medium Bone Cuff in sterling silver. Width, wrist orientation and size are product-specific details. A current example does not establish the date or authenticity of a similar-looking secondhand piece.[6]

New York beginnings
Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young opened a stationery and fancy-goods store. This is the business’s origin story, not the date of the present US sales entity.[3]

Moore manufactory joins Tiffany
The transfer placed the silver manufactory within Tiffany’s newly incorporated company.[4]

LVMH acquisition completed
Tiffany’s SEC filing records the completed merger and its resulting status as a wholly owned indirect LVMH subsidiary.[7]
Cleveland’s object record separates these roles rather than assigning all authorship to the retailer.[5]
