Belleair Coins, Gold & Diamonds / The Silver Queen

A Largo coin operation sharing a showroom with The Silver Queen, with family-business roots in the early 1970s.

Two related names under one roof

Belleair Coins, Gold & Diamonds is the coin operation associated with The Silver Queen’s broader retail business. The latter also covers tableware, collectibles and jewelry. Treasure Coins identifies Belleair Coins as its operator and welcomes visitors to the Largo showroom, so a coin enquiry should be directed to that team.

For a mixed family collection, make a separate question list for coins and household silver. An object’s metal, its original purpose and its collecting history can each call for a different explanation. Avoid letting one combined estimate obscure which pieces you want to understand individually.

Separate the businesses and the move

The current Silver Queen timeline dates the first Belleair Coins shop to 1973 and the separate Silver Queen company to 1979. Another operator history places the coin shop’s beginning in 1972. The exact opening year remains unresolved; both histories place the move to the present West Bay Drive premises in 2002.

Ask what supports a historical story

The shared retail site explicitly includes gold and silver bullion. Its affiliated Treasure Coins site focuses on historic coins, including shipwreck material, and describes opportunities to inspect selected coins at the showroom. These are collecting areas, not a guarantee that a named item will be there.

For a coin presented with a shipwreck connection, ask to distinguish the attribution of the coin from the evidence connecting that particular object to a recovery. Request copies of the documents that will accompany it, and ask how any certificate is matched to the piece. A grading label and a recovery narrative should each be understandable on their own terms.

Take a short list

Three questions for the counter

  1. Can the coin team show the particular category I want to study on my visit?
  2. What evidence connects this specific coin with the stated shipwreck or recovery?
  3. Which documents accompany the piece, and how are they matched to it?
