A Year of Silver Mining Per Person

Dividing one year of mine output by the matching population gives a useful scale comparison. It is not an allocation of available silver.

The short answer

Revised 2024 global mine output divided by 2024 UN population is about 0.10 troy ounce per person. This compares the scale of an annual flow, not what each person can buy.

The equation 823.6 million troy ounces of 2024 global mine output divided by about 8.162 billion people yields approximately 0.101 troy ounce, or 3.14 grams, per person. Labels say this is annual flow, not an allocation or available stock.
Original arithmetic diagram using matched 2024 inputs. World Silver Survey 2026 revises 2024 mine output to 823.6 million troy ounces. Dividing by the UN’s 2024 mid-year population of 8,161,972,572 gives 0.10090698 troy ounce, or 3.1385579 grams, per person, rounded to 0.101 troy ounce and 3.14 grams. The displayed population is rounded. This is a comparison of annual mine flow, not an allocation, total stock, total supply or retail availability. Match the year and units

A year of global silver mining becomes easier to picture when divided by the world’s population. World Silver Survey 2026 puts 2024 mine output at 823.6 million troy ounces. Dividing that by the United Nations’ 2024 mid-year population figure of about 8.162 billion gives approximately 0.101 troy ounce per person, or 3.14 grams.

A calculation, not an allocation

Both numbers refer to 2024, and the calculation is a comparison of scale. It does not describe what each person owns or can buy. The earlier World Silver Survey 2025 estimated the same year’s mine output at 819.7 million ounces; the later revision changes the precise arithmetic but leaves the rounded one-tenth-ounce comparison intact.

Mine flow is not total stock

Mine production is only one part of the picture. The 2026 survey also records 194.5 million ounces of recycling in 2024, while previously mined metal exists in bullion and other forms. Industrial demand, jewelry, coins and bars all feature in the market. Dividing mine output by population does not measure retail investment supply, prove a shortage, or predict prices. It illustrates the size of one year’s mining flow, with its year and limitations kept visible.
